tiled.

we are sitting in our own home for the first time in a week. it's fantastic. and we have a newly tiled hallway and kitchen. we love it. we have been wanting to do the floor since we've moved in since the linoleum throughout the kitchen and hall were in a word, well, disgusting. the whole entire house has hardwoods except for these two spaces...and the guy before us did quite a number on them. we had to scrub these floors with baking soda and vinegar when we got the house in order to get them clean. it. took. forever. needless to say, we could not wait to save up the money for the tile floors. and yes, we did them ourselves. and no, we never want to tile such a large space again. but, yes, we are thrilled with the outcome. thrilled.

first: we started thursday night last week taking up the baseboards and prepping the floor to get ready for laying the cement board on friday. we had the cutest little helper, as you can see. friday morning he was off to gramma and tuffy's for the week while we put the floor in. we are so thankful that they gave up three whole days to spend with our boy.

okay, some before shots:

seriously...vom.

so we started the process by laying cement board. we tried pulling up the linoleum a little, but there was no way it was coming up...so right over it we went. GOODBYE UGLY!!!!!

we layed the cement board between friday and saturday, and then tiled on sunday, and a half day on monday. we grouted on wednesday. i'd estimate about 45-50 hours...needless to say, we really missed this guy:

and really, all anyone wants to know about...the after pictures. we love it. it brightens up everything in the house. keep in mind there is much work still to be done: base boards and ugly doors. we will do something with the cabinets, counter tops and sink once we get through tax season.

here you go:
