on exodus.

ry just got home from a very long day at the office and he's back on his computer working again. at least he was able to come home and see j for a half hour. that's better than being at the office until ten and not seeing him at all.

so while he's working, i should be cleaning or something, but i'm sleepy tonight. and i've been wanting to sit and look through the book of exodus to see how many times it says: "so that you shall know that I am God." you see, we had the privilege of going to a wonderful church in massachusetts where we learned how to read and study the bible. it. was. awesome. so as i have been reading through exodus, i've noticed a purpose statement and a theme throughout: "so that you shall know that I am God." i've wanted to go through and look at all the times it said this...

then I will take you for My people, and I will be your God; and you shall know that I am the Lord your God, who brought you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. - Exodus 6:7

The Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I stretch out My hand on Egypt and bring out the sons of Israel from their midst. - Exodus 7:5

Thus says the Lord, "By this you shall know that I am the Lord: behold I will strike the water that is in the Nile with the staff that is in my hand, and it will be turned to blood." - exodus 7:17

and that you may tell in the hearing of your son, and of your grandson, how I made a mockery of the Egyptians and how I performed My signs among them, that you may know that I am the Lord. - Exodus 10:2

Thus I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and he will chase after them; and I will be honored through Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord. - Exodus 14:4

Then the Egyptians will know that I am Lord - Exodus 14:18

I have heard the grumblings of the sons of Israel; speak to them, saying 'At twilight you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread; and you shall know that I am the Lord your God.' - Exodus 16:12

all these things kept happening...so that they would know that He is God. i love reading through scripture verse by verse because these are the kinds of things that pop out. how many things in my life are to smack me in the face to remind me that i'm not in control and that He is God? it makes me think about how my life needs to be about that. how everything that happens in my life needs to point to God. the good, the bad, the every day life. it all should point to God so that other people will know that He is God. talk about a perspective check...good thing for grace.
